The last ruler of the Hsia dynasty of China. King Chieh abandoned himself to a dissolute life and caused his people great distress with his tyranny and extravagance. Thus he brought about the downfall of his dynasty. Together with King Chou of the Yin (Shang) dynasty, he is regarded as the epitome of a tyrant.
